Classic Hummus

Hummus is a versatile and flavorful spread originating from the Middle East, Enjoyed as a dip with pita bread or fresh vegetables, but it also makes a delicious spread for sandwiches or wraps. With its creamy texture and rich, nutty flavor, hummus is not only a tasty addition to many dishes but also offers nutritional benefits, being high in protein and fiber. Whether you're preparing a quick snack or a party appetizer, hummus is a delightful choice that caters to a variety of tastes and dietary preferences. Finish with a healthy drizzle of your favorite Olive Oil from The Galley!

INGREDIENTS 

1 cup cooked chick peas (1 can, drained and rinsed) 

Juice and flesh of 1/2 lemon (or more to taste) 

1-3 cloves garlic pealed and rough chopped 

1/2 tsp salt (less if using canned beans) 

1/3 c Tahini (sesame seed "butter") ΒΌ 

1/4 c EVOO (any of our flavored OO would be amazing!)  more for garnish

Water or reserved cooking liquid to thin if desired


METHOD

Blend all ingredients together using a food processor or immersion blender. Add additional liquid to thin to desired consistency. Drizzle with olive oil and garnish with parsley. Let the kids help & have fun! AMAZING VARIATIONS: The possibilities are really endless! 1. Add a cooked sweet potato, roasted peppers, cumin, fresh herbs, or a dash of cayenne. 2. Play with the flavor of olive oil: green chili if your kids love spice, lemon to brighten their taste buds, or basil to give it a fresh taste 3. Garnish with pimentos, olive tapenade or pesto.
